Throughout my lessons I make sure to try and get my students to have authentic discussions. One way I promote this is by using higher order thinking questions. When I just ask my students recall questions, I can't get a good feel for what they are really thinking or their deeper understanding of information. I also think this gets students more willing to participate, because it can get their minds working and thinking about different things. I love when my students get really into a discussion because this gets them more excited about their learning. This is key for me because I feel when students are excited about their learning, they will take ownership of it, and in turn get a lot more out of their education.
Demonstrating Flexibility and Responsiveness
As a teacher, flexibility and responsiveness are both key attributes to have. Throughout my time teaching I have learned that things will often not go according to plan. After all, we are dealing with a room full of students with varied needs and abilities. I think that being willing and able to adapt to the ever-changing needs of a classroom is very vital to success as an educator.
